Caffe Il Cigno for Typical Cannoli di Catania

Cannoli has to be the classic Sicilian pastry along with fruit shaped marzipan and the more complicated Cassata. But of the three Cannoli takes the least talent, if you buy the pastry already fried. It's simple, just mix ricotta, sugar, small chocolate chips for the filling and stuff it into the rolled pastry. You can garnish it with a piece of candied fruit like a cherry or orange peel. Could it be more simple? The Catanese have come up with a way. I have to say the best cannolo I have eaten to date only used ricotta with sugar and a small sprinkling of cinnamon.

If you'd like to try one, it can be found at Caffe Il Cigno a few doors away from the amphitheater ruins, Teatro Antico E Odeon, on Via Vittorio Emanuele II in Catania Sicily.
